A Chinese Developer Plans to Transform Little Village Into a Tourist Destination for Soup Lovers
Chicago, IL – Soup lovers rejoice! Little Village, the vibrant Mexican-American neighborhood southwest of Chicago, is about to become even more popular thanks to an ambitious project led by Chinese developer, Xiaoming Liu. Liu’s vision is to transform the area into a tourist destination known for its diverse and delectable soup offerings.
Liu’s fascination with soup comes from his childhood in China, where soup is considered a fundamental part of daily meals. Upon his arrival in Chicago, Liu quickly noticed the absence of a widespread soup culture. Determined to change this, he traveled far and wide across the city in search of the best soups on offer. His culinary exploration led him to Little Village, an area bursting with authentic Mexican cuisine and home to some of the city’s finest soup establishments.
Motivated by the incredible flavors he discovered, Xiaoming Liu partnered with local soup masters to organize the first-ever Soup Crawl in Little Village. This innovative event aims to showcase the array of soup options available in the neighborhood and attract tourism while promoting its rich Mexican-American heritage.
The Soup Crawl traverses through Little Village’s main streets, tantalizing visitors with enticing aromas and tantalizing flavors wafting from the specialized kitchens. The event invites participants to sample various soups, ranging from traditional caldos and sopas to the renowned birria, and even a touch of ramen to honor the cultural fusion present in the neighborhood.
Local establishments are thrilled about the opportunity to bring their culinary creations to a wider audience. One chef, Jose Garcia, stated, “I’ve been making my grandmother’s famous birria soup for over twenty years now. Being part of the Soup Crawl allows me to share our family recipe and showcase the unique flavors that Little Village has to offer.”
The Soup Crawl is set to debut in spring 2024, and Liu hopes it will bring a surge of tourism to Little Village, benefiting local businesses in the process. Additionally, Liu has plans for a future Soup Museum, where visitors will have the chance to learn about the history and various styles of soup from around the world.
As word of the upcoming Soup Crawl spreads, food enthusiasts from all corners of the city are eagerly anticipating the event. With its rich Mexican-American culinary heritage and now, thanks to Xiaoming Liu, an exciting celebration of soups, Little Village is poised to become a must-visit destination for foodies and tourists alike in the near future.
